A winter photograph of Grand Bé in Saint-Malo on the north-western coastline of France. A cold, windless, mid December afternoon. Grand Bé is one of several fortresses built on islands close to the walled city. The Fort was built primarily as part of a defence system against the British and Dutch fleets. Saint-Malo is a walled, port city, perhaps best known for its Privateers (Pirates approved by the King!) from the middle ages onwards.
